The Canowindra Phoenix was first published Wednesday 5 March 2008 in response to the closing of the Canowindra Community Technology Centre, which until November 2007, had been distributing a small A5 sized newsletter with community events and advertising included.

The Phoenix was designed especially to:

* Provide an affordable and effective marketing avenue for local businesses and residents.

* Support economic growth by encouraging patronage of local businesses and events.

* Encourage and celebrate community participation and cultural development.

The Canowindra Phoenix is delivered free to over 837 homes and businesses in and around Canowindra each week. It is also emailed to over 600 email subscribers throughout the wider region.

Over 1,300 copies are printed each week and delivered to: 477 homes in Canowindra, 55 to Eugowra, 45 to Cudal, 50 to Cargo, Woodstock 30, and 30 to Gooloogong Post Office. In addition 377 copies are distributed through the road mailboxes in the district.With an email distribution list of over 600 people, The Phoenix is growing in both content and distribution…and still remains a free publication.
